Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has said that he was embarrassed that the army did not foresee the attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy. “Nigerian Defence Academy is not a place where we could think that we should fortify to such a level that liberty that is required to be able to emplace the level of leadership learning and skills will be lost,” he said during a programme – RadioNow’s Urgent Conversations – aired on Channels Television on Friday. “But that, of course, is a lesson we have factored, and it does not in any way dampen the preparedness of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to what it should. And it does not in any way speak to our weakness and our inability to defend the nation”. Xavi’s Qatari Club Agrees Deal With Barcelona.

Barcelona are set to announce Xavi Hernandez’s dramatic return to the club as coach, after Al Sadd confirmed on Friday a deal has been agreed between the clubs. The Qatari club said in a statement Barca had paid the release clause for Xavi, who has been coaching in Qatar since 2019 and now rejoins the club where he enjoyed huge success as a player. Al Sadd chief executive Turki Al-Ali said in a statement: “The Al Sadd administration has agreed on Xavi’s move to Barcelona after the payment of the release clause stipulated in the contract. “We’ve agreed on cooperation with Barcelona in the future. Xavi is an important part of Al-Sadd’s history and we wish him success.” Barcelona sent vice-president Rafa Yuste and director of football Mateu Alemany to Doha for talks on Wednesday. Commissioner of Police and Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, has assured the people of Anambra State that the security set up ahead of the governorship election is intact. “The entire security arrangement that we’ve already put in place remains intact,” Mr Mba said on Friday when he made an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today in Awka, the state capital. “Our men are fully on the ground; we made a pledge with the people of Anambra state and that pledge is that we will remain politically neutral in the course of our duties in the state. We also pledged to provide a level playing field for all political actors to play out their political games and exercise their franchise without hindrance”. Many Feared Killed As Tanker Explodes In Kubwa Market

Many People were feared killed on Friday after a kerosene tanker exploded at the popular Kubwa Market in the nation’s capital. According to eyewitnesses, at least five persons were burnt beyond recognition, while many were injured. The eyewitnesses explained that the tanker explosion resulted in a fire that affected a shop near the main market. Operatives from the Nigerians Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp as well as the FCT Fire Service successfully brought the fire under control.
